Today is #TBT, also known as Throw Back Thursday. This social media phenomenon is when you post a photo of yourself from a different era and your Facebook friends comment on your old hairdo (or hair-don’t) and fashion choice.
So, today you can post those pics to Facebook, but if you are hoping I can connect you to a potential partner, those throwback Thursday photos won’t work for me. I understand we all have snapshots of ourselves from a few years back that we like and use as our profile picture, or even on our business cards, but when it comes to matchmaking, current photos are vital. Imagine you are car shopping and a salesperson sends you an image of a shiny red convertible, fully loaded with rich Corinthian leather and heated seats. You will most likely rush to the dealership, only to find the leather is worn, the body is a bit rusty and the topdoesn’t even come down any more. Yes, this is a bit of an exaggeration, but it’s about transparency and honesty — not just honesty for me in this process, but also for you.
I have been so impressed with how many women and men have shown me their true selves. It’s scary to open yourself up, but I really think it will be worth it. There are several couples I have connected from the start who are still together and that’s wonderful. Others have been open and willing to keep trying to step up to the plate. For many of you thinking about contacting me, do it. But first, snap a few selfies of yourself or grab a few photos from the last couple of months showing who you really are. Then you can put those 2011 photos on #TBT instead.
If you are single and looking or know someone who is, get them to email me at tara@kamloopsthisweek.com.
This week, I will confidentially draw for a $50 gift certificate to On The Rocks pub and grill and it will go to the friend who urges you to contact me. When you email, let me know which friend sent you and I will contact them for the prize.
